Apr 7th - Public Information Session to Discuss Recommedations on Reducing Risk of Zebra Mussel Infection, 6-8pm, Crosby Elementary School, 517 West Street, Pittsfield, MA: The Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) is sponsoring a public forum to discuss recommendations for reducing the risk of zebra mussel infestations in bodies of water at risk for infestation. The Zebra Mussel Task Force (ZMTF) was created by EEA following the discovery of zebra mussels in Laurel Lake, Laurel Brook and the Housatonic River in western Massachusetts. A public information session will be held April 7, 2010, at which the recommendations will be presented and the public will have an opportunity to ask questions about implementation and next steps.

Apr 8th - The 7th Annual Water Resources Research Center Conference at the University of Massachusetts Amherst will address the needs for water monitoring, assessment, and management of water resources in New England in the face of variability due to changes in climate, land use, population, and other environmental stressors. Apr 15th - New England Wildflower Society's Garden in the Woods Opens for the Season: Framingham, MA - The 2010 season opening date is April 15 for the Society’s 45-acre botanic museum Garden in the Woods. The closing date for the season is October 31. In 2010, the theme for activities and education at Garden in the Woods is “Growing Communities: Native Plants and People.” The Garden serves as a living laboratory for conservation, horticulture, and education. Apr 24th - Annual Earth Day Charles River Cleanup, 9am - 12pm - Come join more than 3,000 other volunteers along all 80 miles of the Charles River in the 11th Annual Earth Day Cleanup on Saturday, April 24 from 9am-12pm! You will be part of a group picking up trash (including shopping carts, plastic bottles, and old tires) from along the banks of the Charles River at one of more than 50 sites from Boston to Milford. Apr 24th - Earth Day at Garden in the Woods, 12-4pm: Enjoy free admission to Garden in the Woods all day, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Take a guided walking tour and learn the history of the Garden, the design of the various garden areas and habitats, and the conservation elements being addressed. Tour the unique New England Garden of Rare and Endangered Plants. Visit the Invasive Plant Jail to see what these plant scourges look like and how to rid your property of them. Special events take place between noon and 4 p.m., with tours given on the half hour.

Apr 26th - Responding to Climate Change II: Tools and Solutions for Safeguarding Wildlife and Habitats, A follow-up to the 2008 Bentley Conference Responding to Climate Change: Working Together to Conserve Land, Wildlife and Habitat. Manomet Center for Conservation Sciences (Manomet) and the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife are presenting a half-day event, from 1-5pm, as follow-on to the groundbreaking conference held at Bentley College in November 2008.
